HOT or NOT co-founder, James Hong, is currently traveling on a world tour which includes destinations in Asia. He mentioned this not too long ago on his blog. He will be traveling with his family and will be taking a full year to experience living overseas. It’s amazing how his wife agreed, considering that she just gave birth to their first child, Jackson Hong, a few months back.
James is well known for his startup HOT or NOT, which he co-founded with Jim Young. The site started out as a simple rating site to rate photos of people based on whether they were hot or not. Within a week of launching the site, it garnered over 2 million page views. It later evolved to provide dating services and was rumored to have been sold for about $20 million. James is also an angel investor and adviser to multiple startups in Silicon Valley including, Slide, Crunchyroll, Mochi Media and many more.
Based on what we hear, James is being courted to speak at one of the local events in Feb/March next year !So, keep a look out for that.

This would be great for our startup to attend. Though we will need to find an angel investor BEFORE the event to fund our participation!!
In the US, the high-quality angel investor forums are free for entrepreneurs to attend. I’d hope they would consider in the future that (real) startups typically don’t have excess cash to spend on these types of events. Good luck to those firms cash rich enough to attend.

What in the world??? Why is this event so expensive??? $400 if you’re a Bansea member and $600 for non-members? The Asian Angel Investing community in general seems pretty clueless and out of touch. It’s run more like a country club than a real group of investors. Case in point. the Y Combinator Angel Conference is FREE. The participants should be embarassed and outraged for being used like this.
