Update: on 6 Waves’s financial figures, this article claims “earnings” of HK$600,000/ US$85,000 over a 6 month period as of October 2008, while a more updated article claims profit of US$71,000 per month, accurate of Jan 2009.
A newcomer has stormed the high bastion of VC-backed, million-dollars-bankrolled Facebook app development companies. Heard of “6 Waves”?

Lets take a look at a different kind of leaderboard (data from Crunchbase):

Their Secret?
Language Customization for Facebook’s growing international audience.
From Inside Facebook, 6 Waves is raking in their 22 million MAUs (Monthly Active Users) through a total of 61 applications. The range of languages includes Chinese, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Turkish.. This compares with the typical English-centric focus of the other top Facebook app developers.
According to Rex Ng, co-founder of 6 Waves, they had originally intended to focus their app development on the Chinese audience in China but quickly found that the numbers were not favoring them, with only 200,000 Chinese users listed in Facebook. The search function of Facebook further handicaps discovery of applications developed in Asiatic languages. 6 Waves’ business model started from advertising, but has since included affiliate offer deals and virtual item sales.
