  • My Word! – A New Media Competition Brought To You by SingTel and MagikAsia

    SingTel, along with its media partner MagikAsia invites entries for an
    exciting new media competition – My Word! Contestants can choose to
    participate in any of two categories: Open and Student.

    Full-timers or freelancers who are professionally engaged/have been
    professionally engaged in television, film, advertising, radio or are
    teaching media or communication courses – can participate in the OPEN
    category. There is another students’ category (please contact the
    Producers for details).

    The winning entry for the OPEN category will stand to win a $2,000
    cash prize.

    My Word! is a brand new 3G program specially designed for young
    media-savvy Singaporeans to express their bold, passionate and honest
    views on key social issues through the creative use of video and 3G
    technology. Contestants can express their thoughts through video
    submissions using live action, animation, stop-motion or any
    combination of the above. The videos are also not restricted
    by genre – drama, comedy, thriller, action, documentary, talk show,
    music video or a crossover of various genres – as long as their views
    get put across loud and clear!

    The top 40 entries (in the students and OPEN category) will be
    showcased over three different platforms – television, mobile and web
    - on an interactive SingTel portal. Visitors to the SingTel portal can
    view the videos and engage in discussions on the various topics featured.

    The winning entries also have the chance of being featured on a
    high-profile, interactive program targeted to launch on IPTV in mid-2007.

    Participants can send in their videos on any of the following topics -
    each video has to directly address the question in one selected topic:

    1. Youth Apathy
    Do young people care about what’s happening around them?

    2. `Teach Less, Learn More’ approach by MOE
    Is teaching in Singapore too rigid?

    3. Singapore a Fun, Vibrant City
    Is Singapore fun?

    4. Sports Excellence
    Can Singapore have world champions?

    5. `No Singlish’ policy
    Is Singlish really so bad?

    6. Community Bonding
    Do you really know your neighbors?

    Deadline for submission: 15 MARCH 2007 *EXTENDED!*

    Participants stand to win attractive cash prizes:

    For the Student Category:
    1st prize: $ 1 500
    2nd prize: $ 1 200
    3rd prize: $ 800
    5 merit prizes: $ 500 each

    For the OPEN Category:
    1st Prize: $2000

    Conditions for submission:
    Each video must start with a 30-second to 1-minute piece-to-camera by
    the participant giving his or her thoughts on the issue in a
    persuasive and creative manner.

    The length of each video, including the piece-to-camera, opening
    titles and closing credits, must be 6 minutes exactly.

    The contest is strictly open to Singapore citizens and Permanent
    Residents only.

    The winning entries will be selected on the basis of original thought,
    validity of arguments, persuasiveness, creativity and visual appeal.

    Entries can be submitted in the following formats: DVD-video,
    Quicktime file or MiniDV tape.

    Entries must be submitted to the MagikAsia office at 30 Jalan Hitam
    Manis, Chip Bee Gardens, Singapore 278444.

    The producers have the right to edit the content in the video submissions.

    Contestants can submit as many entries as they want to. Employees of
    SingTel and MagikAsia will not be allowed to take part in the competition.

    Each entry must be accompanied by an information sheet with the
    following details:

    Name of participant
    Freelancer/full-time
    Office address
    Contact number
    Email address
    Mailing address
    Date of birth
    Selected topic
    Synopsis (not more than 50 words)

    The winning entries will be selected by a panel of judges headed by
    Mr. Viswa Sadasivan, a media industry veteran and seasoned political
    commentator.

    Results will be announced by April 2007. Winners will be notified.
